BRIDGFORD 4 (Rob Bartlett
2 Kevin Kerr, Jason Lawlor) MAN OF THE MATCH: Rob Bartlett
Rob Bartlett scores two first half goals to help Bridgford to their first win in five weeks. The game started at a fast tempo with Bridgford wanting to repay Basford a favor from earlier in the season, and with Basford needing three points to keep their survival hopes alive. Basford had the first real chance when slack Bridgford marking from a long throw reached the Basford forward sadly for them he only found the hands of the Bridgford keeper. Minutes later and Bridgford found room of their own when Dixon played a great lofted ball to Bartlett who was unmarked at the back post, he hit the ball first time on the volley with such power if the keeper had got a hand to it he would only have hurt himself to open the scoring. Bridgford from this found confidence and started playing some good passing football, the second goal of the game mind you came from quick thinking rather than skill. Bridgford had won a free kick around thirty yards out, Bartlett spotted the keeper was in the wrong position and quickly took the free kick, the Basford keeper seemed to recover but then dropped the ball in to the net. Basford then fought back and with fifteen minutes of the half left they won a penalty when Parsons was adjudged to have brought a player down in the box after the ball was played. up stepped the penalty taker he hit it low to the keepers left but sadly for Basford to close to the keeper who parried it away, the shot was at a good height for the keeper to save. Two minutes later Basford did get the break through when a cross was punched out by the Bridgford goalie only to see it drop at the forward who hit it past the keeper and a player on the line to half the deficit. The second half saw Basford put pressure on Bridgford's back line early on, but the partnership of Parsons and Kerr at the back for Bridgford repealed most things that Basford could offer and it was in fact the latter that stretched Bridgford's lead when he hit a sweet volley form a corner to score his first goal for the club. With twenty minutes to go Bridgford just needed to see the game out, but with the last four games finishing in draws the nerves were clear for all to see, and when Basford got their second with ten minutes left it really was time for the Bridgford players to stand up and be counted. That they did! keeping Basford at bay. with five minutes left Lawlor beat the off side trap and found the back of the net to restore the two goal lead and see the game out. This was Bridgford's first win in five games they now have an unbeaten run of 8 games to see them well and truly save in division one.
